We are living in complex and challenging times of uncertainty and change on a global scale. It is easy to fall into fear and anxiety with the daily news and messaging. Add to that the frequent government policy changes and decisions which we didn't vote for, and it’s increasingly hard to stay on an even path.

On a personal or professional level, we may also be juggling circumstances and priorities and ' putting out fires' with no end in sight. Fear and anxiety are known to suppress our immune system and keep us in a state of fight, flight or freeze. This is not a healthy place to be. If left unattended, they may lead to burnout and stress.

Aside from our personal transitions, we are all living through a huge global transition

William Bridges describes a transition as "the psychological process we go through to come to terms with a new situation."

Transition is an ‘in between’ space. We may feel a bit like a trapeze artist suspended in mid-air or a high-wire walker delicately trying to maintain balance.

At times like this, it's good to step back, check in and ask:-

  • What is in my control?

  • What is outside of my control?

  • What changes or adjustments can I make?

  • What difference would this make to how I am feeling?

Here are some tips to reset your life: -

  1. Make a list of the things you are free to take action on (this will help you regain some autonomy). We can create positive changes by taking small steps, even micro-steps.

  2. Check in with yourself. What do you need in the moment to feel calmer and more centred?

  3. Redesign a new morning routine to uplift you, whether you are a lark or an owl. What would put you in a great mood? Maybe it's journaling, yoga, singing, dancing or walking in nature every day. For more suggestions take a look at “Miracle Morning” by Hal Elrod.

  4. Eat and drink healthily. When we are hydrated and well-nourished, we have consistent energy throughout the day. Try out some new healthy recipes to get re-inspired.

  5. Consider a detox and reduce your alcohol, sugar and caffeine intake.

  6. Rebalance your week. Think about what you want to change. Plan out your ideal week, compare it to your actual week and take steps to change it.
